The Power of the Whiteboard

I have hundreds of pictures of whiteboards on my phone—sketches of ideas, strategic plans, and visions for the future. Some were pivotal, shaping leadership decisions and long-term goals. Others? Well, let’s just say they didn’t make it past the brainstorming phase. But that’s the beauty of a whiteboard—it allows for bold thinking, quick adjustments, and the freedom to refine ideas until they work.

For me, whiteboards represent how leadership should function—not as a rigid checklist but as a flexible space to map out ideas, shift strategies, and refine direction as needed. That’s where Whiteboard Leadership comes in. It’s a framework for leaders who want to think clearly, adapt strategically, and execute with purpose.

Whiteboards give leaders what they need most: clarity, adaptability, and action. They make it easy to lay out a vision, adjust when things don’t go as planned, and move forward with confidence. They help leaders see the big picture without getting stuck in the details.

The same is true in leadership. Whether you’re leading a church, a business, or a team, your strategic plan isn’t meant to be permanent ink—it should be something you can refine, rewrite, and improve over time. That’s the core of Whiteboard Leadership. Great leaders don’t just make plans—they build adaptable strategies that allow them to pivot when necessary while still keeping the vision clear.

The Whiteboard Leadership book lays out six principles designed to help leaders think, plan, and lead with clarity. But the book is just the starting point. If you want to take your leadership strategy further, start by taking the Strategic Planning Assessment to identify your Strategic Planning  Style and learn how to refine your planning approach.
